  A trip into the city

2008-09-13

A classmate of mine from yoga wanted to go see a Thai exhibition in the city, hoping to find some nice Thai clothing. I wanted to follow around somebody who knows the city for a while.

When we arrived, we discovered the exhibition was tiny and stunningly dull — there were some people selling lamps, candles, and incense. So we left and walked around downtown for a while. We decided to check out the National Centre for Performing Arts (NFA), where some people gave us free tickets to the opening night of the Indian Symphony Orchestra, which was pretty cool. Sadly, they were playing mostly Mozart, which is tedious, tedious stuff. My friend, Deepa, who had never really had much exposure to classical music, was asleep in 10 minutes flat.

Afterwards, we grabbed a sammich and then hopped the train back to our respective neighbourhoods.

Train into the city. Not a lot of people on this train Saturday at 4pm.
View out the car.
Other trains roaring past.
Next, a double decker bus to the World Trade Centre. It cost more than the train!
My friend Deepa and me looking like an unshaven bum. Mostly because I was.
Ta-daaaaa!
The festival. Yawn.
The symphony hall. Not bad.
Some guy droning on about how droll it was that they were to play Mozart instead of ... uh ..... Zzzzzzzzzzzzz.....
It was pretty full by the time things got going. They gave away a few dozen free tickets to fill up the last coupla rows.
Still droning ......
We skipped out at half-time and got some food instead. Yums!
