| Alex arrives in Rishikesh | |

2008-09-22
My friend Alex arrived in Rishikesh today to hang out and try and get some work done. The complete and utter lack of Internet meaned that not a lot of work was done beyond planning and discussions, but we still got to do some cool stuff, eat some lousy food, and play some computer games. |
I made the mistake of heading out from High Bank one night to try dinner "in the city". There are no lights on any of the roads in this city, and nobody else ventures out at night.
The net result is an entirely alarming trip, where my iPhone pretty much served as a flashlight the entire time
It turns out that a lot of fog collects on the MIGHTY GANGA every night.
This is inside the place I ate dinner. I was the only person there. Creepy.
Cute kitty that set up shop outside my room. His mom and sister are around here somewhere. He's a total fraidy-cat wuss.
Oooh, Ram Jhula on a nice sunny day. W0000t.
With all the rain here of late, the water levels are way higher than they were just 5 days ago. The ferry docks are completely under water....
I call this "Marc and the cow".
Alex took a few days to figure that Jeans a t-shirt are inappropriate outerwear for India.
Stairway to the GREAT GANGA!
I've been back to the Yoga Study Centre place a few times, despite the crazy location, but he's shutting down shop for a few days to do some yoga-hiking in the mountains. Odd.

A good number of students come here, including surprising numbers of Taiwanese and Koreans.
Oooh, yummy vegetables.
Tough job pulling all that around in the rain.
This is the Koyalgati neighbourhood.
Back on the main road, hopping a baby taxi back to LJ
This is the market neighbourhood, now in morning rush hour.
This is the big entrance to the market.
You get pretty close to the other vehicles on the road here.
The rain's been pretty heavy of late.
This is Rishikesh's largest public toilet. People use this as a bathroom, so going past here in the morning is an absolute assault on your nose. Ew.
Monkey!
Another trip to LJ, this time in the sun!
Haha, the cute kitties decided it was time to play with the garbage can.
Well, then it was nap time with mom, who's probably not even a year old herself.
Can it be milk time now please?
No? Weak. I'm outies.
Even cats are smart enough to know to hang in the shade.
