Beijing in Detail: Another couple of miles in Beijing

2007-09-17

Time for another "trip through Beijing streets" type report. Today I went from my apartment to my favourite hangout area in Beijing, Nanluoguxiang (南锣鼓巷). It's a nice place with lots of coffee shops, restaurants, and expensive touristy type shops with trinkets etc.

It was pretty warm out today still, with summer not quite yet being dead. I bicycled the way there along Dongsishitiao, one of the big east-west roads. Being on a bicycle, some of the photos are at a weird angle.

Photos are roughly every 50 metres or so.

The creepy elevators in mah building!
There are always old Chinese ladies in the park area here doing some sort of physical activity. It's nice.
There is never a shortage of bicycles here. Finding yours can be a bit of a challenge.
Did I mention I have the biggest forehead in the history of mankind?
Everybody needs a little McLovin'. In fact, the McDonald's here in China tend to be pretty good, with much higher quality ingredients than in other countries.
Baoli theatre, the local venue for Musicals and some concerts.
Second ring road.
Given this country's general lack of order I'm always surprised to see how politely people wait in line for the bus here.
Beijing taxis tend to be much cleaner and nicer than many other cities I've been to.
"Nobody can seeee meee!"
These traffic warden guys are kinda fun, and most people generally pay attention to them.
New Line 5 subway station.
Lotsa and Lotsa electric bicycles.
This is your view much of the time in the bike lane. There are lots of buses.
Finally arrived in NLGX. This place is pretty long, so I've still got a few hundred metres to go.
Old guys playing traditional Chinese chess. Looks fun.
"get the hell outta the way!"
Public toilets
I think this is a local drama or acting school / academy thing.
LONG LIVE THE GLORIOUS SLOGANS!
This is Xiaoxin's (小新). It's my favourite place here, with a pretty good balance of nice coffees and food, pleasant service, and a nice environment.
