  Castles? Still more of them!

2005-07-07

We hadn't had enough of castles apparently, because later that afternoon we went to Chambord (which none of us had ever heard of), which is a huge and famous palace (sorry, hunting lodge).

Unlike other castles, this one focuses mostly on the structure and castle-ness of the place instead of the luxury stuff on the inside. In fact, the inside of this castle just had some WEIRD crap in it, including abstract displays, and other odd things complaning about the glorious hunting history of the place, etc.

Sunflowers!
After not seeing any in Italy, Samantha was thrilled to finally see a tonne of them here in France.
The parking lot at Chambord.
The tourist food pavillion at Chambord
Chambord. The castle is absolutely monstrous.
or just look like dorks.
Royal Church!
They had a horse show, which Samantha wanted to go see, but it was another 15 € to get in ...
The architecture of the castleis quite noteworthy, and it's supposedly a modular building.
It's mostly filled with French schoolkids on field trips.
Yes, that is an ARM holding the candle.
The artwork and decorations in this building are absolutely WEIRD.
But the building itself is spectacular.
This is giant spiral of tin-foil. Really.
And these are weird bum plants in paper towels or toilet paper. Or something. WTF ???
The only thing weirder than the deer dancing with the mostly unclothed lady? The dog and where it's licking.
This is the weird red light room.
I have no idea what the hell this stuff is.
This is the animal execution room. There are stuffed animals ... all with execution hoods on.
Okay, back to more normal stuff. The building.
And tapestries.
Crap. Back to the weird stuff. This entire hall compared name brands to varying degrees of death.
Swanky front lawn. Must take a while to mow the grass.
You can walk around up top, which is also quite swanky.
Slate roof.
The stables.
Apparently, they're quite proud of the double helix staircase inside this castle.
Spooky water drain!
Looking up the central tower.
Apparently, they had graffiti in 1941 as well!!!!
Horsie!
Even here the royal church is swanky.
We saw pretty horrific accident on the way towards our next stop. Made a REAL mess of traffic. Traffic jams at least 20km long.
We ended up going "off-road" again, through some small country towns courtesy of the GPS.
