  Cute Animals in Costa Rica

2006-01-25

One of the realities of living in Costa Rica is that there are animals here. Lots of them. Everywhere. Outside the house, inside the house, and even in your bedroom (even if you don't think they're there). Between Tarantulas that eat all the insects in your home, scorpions trundling across the floor as you stumble around at 4am to find the bathroom, and dogs running all around the place, it's an animal paradise.

The home we were staying at was no exception, with a full selection of animals running around getting into just about everything. Two new people who actually paid attention to them was almost too much to bear.

One of the female dogs had just had a litter of puppies. They were pretty rambunctuous.
They were eager for any friends to play with them and give them love. Samantha loves that kind of job description.
Oh, they like to eat and nibble on things too, limbs included.
I think this is momma-dog. She's kinda crabby sometimes.
Hen House #1. There are a few of these around the lot.
Grrr! Must eat fingers!
Samantha's catch phrase: "No Biting". Didn't work at all.
Phew, this is exhausting work.
There's a cat named Linda (spanish for cute)
She's remarkably used to the dogs.
The puppies just wanna play.
Phew! Solitude at last.
Play! Play! Play!
*glug* *glug* *glug*
Ooh, can we drink too?
Pee-yew! Your butt smells like butt!
We called this dog Ugly Dying Dog. He walked around all day pathetically hacking up a lung non-stop. Sadly, we had to change his name about two weeks later.
Mmmm. Girl. Them's good eatin'.
Look at me! I'm a cute kitty!
This is the runt of the litter, a little girl. They're about 3-4 months old.
They can't stand it when another animal gets more lovin' than them.
Well, when there's no more girl, puppies are still fun to play with.
There are a number of hen-houses, each with their own Rooster. There is also this guy, who's a "floater" it seems. He just walks around all day making a lot of noise.
Playing is hard work.
The folded ear thing was very common.
The dogs proceeded to follow me wherever I went.
And would find just about anything interesting.
Hen House #2.
I think there's a girl hidden in there somewhere.
Inside one of the hen houses. They're not super happy having huge people around.
This one didn't care though. She was too busy eating.
Grapefruit tree!
Mistletoe grows here year-round, it seems.
Even ugly dying dog gets thirsty sometimes.
Oh yah, did we mention there are cows too? Six of them!
Whatchoo lookin' at punk?
Oooh, wide angle cow.
