Day trip to Port Townsend, WA

2008-08-13

Some former neighbours of mine from a lifetime ago had long since moved up to Port Townsend, WA, to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. They travel around the world and live in as many interesting places as they can, and then come back home for the finer months.

I'd been meaning to visit them for some time now, and finally got around to it this trip back to North America. Port Townsend is a very hippy-ish place with a very California like feel to it. It's also on the Olympic Peninsula, so the weather tends to be wild.

With all the nice visiting of friends going, it's a real shame I totally forgot to take any pictures of anybody, including the cross-dressing meth addict. Weak!

Alright! Hippie cars!
We just started wandering around town, checking out all the interesting stuff there was to see.
Buildings are very old school here.
People take their gardens quite seriously, however.
This is a little B&B, also with fantastic gardens.
Seeing the backyard was mandatory, it seems.
Kitty cat!!!!
More cool homes.
Things get pretty expensive here, quickly.
Looking down at the ferry dock in Puget Sound.
Looking down on "downtown".
I guess there's supposed to be a bigger ferry here, but it was stolen for another route.
This one is so small they have to close the route in even mildly bad weather.
Lots of bars and cafés here. Tourists come to this town year-round.
Rawr! The locals giggle about the teeth.
Traffic's not so bad here yet.
This is school or museum or something. I forgot.
This place sold a pretty mean hot dog.
Oh wait, this is the museum. I have no idea what the other place was then!
The marina.
There was something big going on today.
We weren't sure what. Wedding or something probably.
Park!
Nice town, nice way to spend the day.
