| Driving to Tamarindo | |

2005-11-23
After a lovely morning walk around the trail our hotel (Fonda Vela) has set up around the place, we started heading towards Tamarindo, which is supposed to be a beautiful coastal beach town on the Pacific Coast. Unfortunately, it's a tourist trap and in the middle of a huge rush to build condos for americans looking for a place "down south". still, the hotel we stayed at (Cala Luna) was swanky as hell and just spectacular. |
They put all these cool native statues around the hotel in Monteverde.
The rooms are quite comfortable, and there's no need for Air Conditioning up here.
The trails they have around the place are quite pleasant and take about a half hour.
Not a lot of people having picnics today, but still quite nice. The weather had completely died off by this point.

Hotel Restaurant.

This bird was hanging out on the side of the road. He was quite docile and not at all phased by us.

Cooool!!!! Teeter-totters!
Driving down the hill towards the Nicoya Peninsula, where Tamarindo lies.
You can see the clouds hanging over the Monteverde cloud forests from here still. Cool.

Ooooh! A panther! Oh wait, it's a wussy little housecat.
Pretty yellow bird.
This bridge is called "La Amistad de Taiwan".
Finally, we made it to Tamarindo, which is undergoing a huge construction boom.
Not too many shops yet -- a bunch of tourist stuff and surfers trying to sell whatever to help pay their bills ...
Cool crabs everywhere!!
The hotel was super swanky, although the security guards every 50m were a bit disconcerting.
We ended up at the beach, which was gorgeous, although all these little bugs kept jumping on our legs, which was weird. Tonnes of crabs.
We went back into town and checked out the main beach in town, where some people were trying to do some late afternoon sailing.
Cool sunset!
