  Hutong Photography Tour

2010-07-18

I signed up to attend a full day little photography workshop today in Beijing's hutongs. It was an opportunity to wander around and see some of my favourite places in Beijing, make some new friends, as well as get learn some tips and tricks about taking photos.

One thing that I've started doing for this report and will for all reports moving forward is to actually do some post-processing of the pictures and make them look a bit better than they come out of the camera looking. It takes a bit more time, but I'm really happy with the results already!

The workshop started out in the Beijing Culture Yard, a nice little place buried in a Hutong.
Hutongs are never boring, so we wandered around checking this out, looking for things to photomagraph.
Beijing's characteristic green and yellow taxis always make for colourful subjects.
As does everybody's laundry.
While the locals don't love them that much, foreigners (myself included) love hutongs. So much character!
Well, the public toilets tend to smell bad.
We're not sure why this guy hung his keys on a tree.
"Yawn". I'm bored.
I love these little yoghurt stands everywhere in the city here.
People put these on their car wheels to prevent dogs from peeing on them.
With all the stabbings in schools lately, all schools are now hiring security guards.
This girl was having a nice day until she saw two foreigners coming down the road with cameras. Then she started screaming.
Peter was leading our class and taking some shots of his own.
Games on mobile phones are huge in China.
"What are you taking a picture of there man?"
This woman was very upset her husband was cleaning their storefront. "MUST BUY MORE BAGS!"
Ran across some people sorting out crayfish for a restaurant
They chuck them from bucket to bucket.
This kid was having nothing of it.
This restaurant's fume hood was completely overflowing with grease and grime. So gross!
Rawr!
Cards never get old here.
This the skinniest I'll ever look.
This scene was perfectly composed for me, just waiting for a camera to come along !!
