After the morning's torrential downpours came to an end, we checked the weather radar on them thar Intarwebs, and they suggested that we had a 2-3 hour window before the next round of solid wet came rolling in. We decided we wanted to do more outdoorsy stuff, so we found a place that would rent us a canoe. They looked at us like we were completely insane, but ultimately agreed to rent us a canoe, and we hopped in and started tooling around. The highlight of the day? Crazy anger management dude. As the weather really started deteriorating, and the winds picked up with the imminent arrival of the next front, some guy went out in a small Laser sailboat. And then proceeded to run into every single other boat in the bay before capsizing the boat repeatedly and pretty much constantly losing control of his vessel. The constant stream of expletives and pure, unrestrained screaming that came from his mouth was exceeded in its creativity only by its volume. Even as we were hundreds of metres away from the guy, we could still hear him roaring away as he hit his fifteenth yacht or capsized for the nth time. I don't think I've ever seen (or heard, from quite a distance) such unrestrained rage before, ever. As comical as it was alarming. |

Fortunately, there are lots of canoes and kayaks available to rent. That might be because we're the only ones crazy enough to do that in this weather ....

Kennebunkport and Kennebunk are separated by a river that comes in from the ocean and is protected by a breakwater, so it's quite comfortable paddling around in here.

Nicole decided she wanted to be cap'n, so I happily just sat up front photomographing things and paddling when necessary.

Uuuh, not a lot of whale watching tours going out these days....

Even on the river, lots of swanky living.

Ducks!

Loons!
|
We worked our way as far up the river as we could go, which was only a couple of miles, and then had to eventually turn around and go back the same way we came.
|
|
Despite the increasingly menacing weather, the water remained calm, and the temperatures warm enough that we really were never that uncomfortable.
|
There were a few other loonies out today too, it seems. Nutters of the world, unite!

Oooh, that's crazy anger management guy in the sailboat back there. His day was about to get worse, as it was only about another 20 minutes before the next big storm came in, which did not let up until about 5am the next day.
