More Castles in the Loire Valley

2005-07-07

We got back on the road on Thursday, and decided that we hadn't seen enough castles yet, so we headed into Blois, also along the Loire River, where we stopped in the huge castle there.

This one turns out to be quite elabourate with three distinct periods to see on the inside, one medieval, one middle aged, and one renaissance.

This is a cool restaurant place we walked past on our way into town.
Whoa, that's a tall building.
This is the luxury way into the castle.
Entrance!
Cute kid!
Charles the ... IV, methinks.
Check out the cool spiral staircase.
Check out this awesome triple piggyback.
Mom's trying to take a photo while dad's back breaks.
Okay, we got into the castle now. Medieval part.
Cool windows!
Like many things medieval, much was destroyed or abandoned, so this part of the castle contains all the pieces they are trying to restore.
Up on the spiral staircase.
Lotsa cool stuff inside the castle.
This place is pretty opulent.
Comfy chair!
Rich folk always have lots of swanky art, of course.
Serious tea chest.
Cool. They're doing restauration here.
We next headed to the Renaissance wing, where there is a tonne of cool art.
And a fireplace.
Tapestry!
This part of the castle doesn't have much in it, but still has some unbelievable stuff worth seeing.
From up on the walkway at the edge of the castle, you get some views of the town, including the cathedral.
And the Loire.
Private praying place. Those crazy royals.
