| Mountains, rain, and the Road to Lisbon | |

Our good luck with the weather slowly came to a halt today. The plan was to go to Lisbon, Portugal, to meet up with friends Pedro and Paula. We hadn't seen them in a very long time, and were glad of the chance to see them again. We had hoped to stop at a number of the interesting towns along the way, but sadly, the quite crappy weather made strolling around sightseeing seem a bit less appealing. So, we contented ourselves with seeing some nice countryside, and otherwise just worked our way to Lisbon. |
We began our day by wandering around the town of Villanueva for a little bit, just to see what's going on here.
It' s not a terribly exciting place, but pleasant.
We headed out on the road and passed many more similar towns.
We hit this flatter part of land where there were fields with tonnes of rocks in them.
It looks as though the farmers collect all the rocks and make fences out of them over the years. The net result are some cool looking fields.
We then came up on the town of Béjar, which wasn't all that exciting.
Wel also stopped off in the town of Candelario, a smallish place in the middle of nowhere that looked cool on the map.
Oooh, a church!
It wasn't -that- spectacular, but still worth the stop (well, we got some coffee too. That's always good).
Sadly, the weather started threatening pretty quickly.
We saw a cool castle on the way.
These giant bull things on the side of major roadways are aaallll over Spain. The rest of the day was kinda spent working our way to Lisbon.
