| Moving on up in the World, or at least a bit North | |

Moving time! We just recently moved apartments from the rather cramped old one into a much more spacious new one in a swankier building complex. While it's no longer quite as run-down looking of a building, it still has all the amenities of a chinese building, including things breaking down left and right, and lots of weird bugs crawling around in your pad. Life on the 18th floor, however, is quite nice, and there are some great views of the city. |
The new living room alone is bigger than the entire previous apartment.
The buildings are quite modern looking, although they have that weird Chinese "tile everything" finish to them.
There's a cool courtyard with playground area down below. Great place to walk your dog or birds. Right now it's the October holiday, so everybody's passing out loot.
Neat views of the city, looking towards the west.
Looking north.
The building right below there is actually a middle school for local kids. Pretty cool.
Bedroom's quite comfortable, and -delightfully- quiet. I've been sleeping so well since the move.

That's Worker's Stadium in the distance (Gongren Tiyuchang, or 工人体育场). It's pretty big, and a lot of the local excitement is around it.
There is nowhere here that is not under construction.
There is a nifty little Hutong (胡同) next to the new complex, and you can get lots of local food for dirt cheap in there.

Moon cakes are all the rage this time of year. We even managed to get a box of them!

This fountain is normally off and bare. But because of the holiday, it's full of flowers and on. Very pretty!
They'll just chuck the flowers in the garbage after the hollyday and turn it off again.
Hey, that's our tower.
Insane bicycle parking! Don't freak out if you can't find your bike the next day. They probably just moved it.
