| No way! It snowed after all! | |

With one of the driest winters in years in Beijing, it seemed as though we'd never get any snow. But thanks to the city governments used of weather seeding artillery, we managed to squeeze in a couple of small snowfalls, including one while I was here. As always, I got as excited as a little girl getting her first Barbie doll, and I ran out to take some photos. What was different this time was that I was using my friend's lens, a 50mm f/1.4, something I'd never worked with before. It's brilliant. I was completely thrilled with the pictures it gave me. There might be one in my future. |

I first stopped for some noodles. Need to fill up with energy before my snow-trekking could begin!!
I love these bug phone booths.

I decided to check out Ritan Park, on account of its proximity to where I was and its beautiful scenery.
Sadly, much of the park was covered in scaffolding for renovations, so I kind of had to look for things to photograph.

I'm curious as to why they wrap the trees in rope.
Even young ones.

Torture park. Didn't see as much usage today.

The snow didn't stop this guy from doing Taijiquan, or filming himself doing it.
This wins the prize for best snowman of the day. Maybe 20cm tall.

The magpies (xique) don't go anywhere in winter.

This is the kind of picture that can only turn out with a f/1.4 lens. So gorgeous.

The inside of the little pagoda thing was like half painted and half not. Strange.

This and the next picture are interesting in that they were both taken from the exact same place. This with the 50mm
... and this with my 16mm lens. Wow.

One of the lousier snowmen of the day.

The little fake fishing pond thing is still frozen over.

I take a picture of this sign every time I come here.
I wasn't the only one with the idea to come here and take some photos. In fact, it was hard to find people withOUT cameras. This girl had a pretty serious one.
Mom had to work it with her daughter. Good fun.
Rawr! Scary snow-covered lions!
"Heeey girrrl, what's up?"
I don't know why I like this picture of the officer and his white-clad girlfriend.
Camera-wielding folks coming and going.
"No no, squat more, like you REALLY hafta go!"

This girl just let dad make the snowman while she just hung out.
Gorgeous day. Had a great time.
