Some wandering and more Ganesh-related fun

2008-09-07

I spent my sunday afternoon and evening wandering around a neighbourhood called Kemp's Corner, and then worked my way up past the Haji Ali mosque. One thing that always strikes me as interesting about India is how you can go from pretty posh and swanky to absolute hellhole in a few hundred metres. Kemp's Corner is one of the most expensive neighbourhoods in town, but as I walked north past the Haji Ali mosque and a pretty little bay, I was suddenly back in pretty awful conditions with beggars galore.

The next day I went and saw some of the going's on at my friend's apartment complex for the Ganesh festival. I believe today was to be some sort of fun and games night.

My first views of the Haji Ali mosque. It's pretty cool, and anybody can walk across to visit it.
There are some nice views across a small bay of another part of the city.
Back at Kamlesh's place they had a pigment art competition.
The kids were all keen on some dancing.
And posing for photos.
Here's something exciting going on. I don't speak Hindi so ... uh ... I just nodded a lot.
