| The Annual Europrez Motorcycle Meet | |

2005-06-30
When we woke up Friday morning, it was absolutely pouring rain out. We weren't feeling all THAT guilty about showing up at a motorcycle meet without a motorcycle. While everybody motorcycled in a long caravan through Luxembourg and Belgium, we hopped back in the car and went to see some town in Luxembourg. Being in the Ardennes, this was the home to some of the most viscious fighting in World War II, during the Battle of the Bulge. As a result, there are museums every two feet, most of them quite cool. We also managed to stop at an awesome monastery and see a few other cool things too. And we ate a lot. (phew!) |
The weather didn't cooperate much in Belgium, but it's still quit eteh gorgeous place to wander around.
Our hotel was very cool, with big spacious wooden rooms with cool German-like blankets.
And a duck pond. Sweeet!
The bikers heading off on their day Ride. Here In B, you can do these caravans with Road Captains, who guide the way and can block traffic.
We ended up in Clerf, Luembourg, where we went to this awesome Benedictine Monastery.
The thing was as huge as it was old, and the monks and priests were extremely welcoming.
A funeral had just finished taking place here, and they were in the church cemetary finishing up the rites.
Next was the little museum they had in the basement. It was a tribute to their lifestyle and the life of St. Benedict.
We next went into the town of Clerf and wandered around there for a while.
It was surprisingly dead at 13h00, but that's probably because they were all eating lunch.
There are literally tonnes of old American military equipment in the part of the world. Probably easier than taking it all back home.
This kid was having a grand ole' time on the thing.
The last museum of the day was this war memorabilia museum, with things like rations, bullets, uniforms, and propaganda. Quite the amazing collection.
We never actually made it up to the cathedral in the town.
Next stop, Vianden, another town with a huge castle. Turns out Luxembourg has zillions of them (despite being a tiny place with only 300.000 people!)
Walking to the castle, we walked past some houses with weird garden decorations.
The castle is extremely old, huge, and quite cool, It's also under construction, so some cool places were closed off.
That's a crazy elabourate locking mechanism on that chest!
You wander in an out of the castle as you tour through the place.
Looking down on th etown.
And the surrounding hillsides.
Grrrr.... I am angry girl.
Musuem with lots of pictures, coats-of-arms, and ...
bottles of wine. MmmmmMmm ... wine.
That's a pretty pimpin' dinner-table setup!
Bedroom. In case you hadn't figured that out already.
Awesome tapestry.
Cool Room
Cool room, now with girl.
The castle well, now filled with empty pop cans.
The cellars/drinking room.
These are pretty cool -- they're the grooves left by wagon/cart wheels.
This looks vaguely unwholesome somehow...
Ducks!
We then decided to wander into Vianden and check it out a bit more.
This guy looks a wee bit grouchy.
This helps us figure out where we are. I think.
There was a major bicycle race through here on the weekend we were in town, so we barely missed getting stuck in that.
