| The Lama Temple, Beijing | |
2006-12-20
My sister was in town for a week over Christmas, and it was nice to have family around. We just hung around and walked around Beijing and chatted a lot. One of the places we went to was the Lama Temple, or Yonghegong, one of the cooler temple/palace-like complexes around town. It helped that the weather was gorgeous today and the sky was perfectly blue and clear for miles. Just a great day for a walk around town and casual sightseeing. |

Nicole takes looking cool very seriously

Strolling down Dongzhimen-nei street, it was a bit chilly, but otherwise gorgeous out.
This street is loaded with restaurants, which are packed every single night.

The place is basically a collection of these halls with various Buddhas representing different virtues or values. You pray to the most appropriate one for your circumstances.

Cool outfit.
There is a whole boatload of incense here. It's part of the offering process.
Fire! Fire! Oh wait, it's supposed to be like that.
Make sure you offer lots of incense.

The buildings are all quite well decorated.

I have no idea what this says, but it's purdy.

You can't take photos inside, bummer.

Santa dragon?

Getting to the back of the complex. In the main hall here is a 16m (~60') tall golden Buddha. It's huge.
The second ring road is about 10m behind this building.
