  Wandering around Bar Harbour

2008-07-26

We headed back into town after our hiking and touring adventures, and wandered around the little town of Bar Harbour proper for a few hours. It's a really nice little place and full of restaurants and souvenir shops. Some good coffee is to be found there too, which is never a bad thing.

Our first night there, we even found a Chinese restaurant, where I asked them to prepare a couple of dishes I was missing from China but hadn't seen on the menu. They were super friendly about it and didn't so such a bad job. It was quite funny.

Once again, lots of charming buildings and B&Bs here in town, all of which are quite packed for the peak summer weekend.
Still haven't partaken of the lobster ....
The whaling tours were quiet today. Too much fog.
But the kayak tours were in full force.
We had dinner our second night at this nice little restaurant. Kinda generic, but just solid italian dishes for good prices. And awesome blueberry booze.
There are a bunch of motels all over the place. Some of the locals were grumbling that things were unusually quiet this year, but it still looked packed to us.
This is the big park in the middle of town, with free wifi.
Free Wifi means backpackers hanging out in the middle of the park with their laptops.
The sunset from the park in the NE corner of town is really nice.
This seagull decided that the little girl's leather shoes looked delicious.
It actually tried to take off with one of them before I swatted at it in the air and it dropped it ...
And so the sun sets on a pleasant little week in New England. We briefly headed to Boston the next day, but were kinda tired and spent the night in western MA again before heading to the airport the next morning.
