| Working our way up to Bar Harbour | |

One of the places that people rave about most in Maine is Acadia National Park and the little town of Bar Harbour, both of which sit on an island right off the Maine coast (access via a bridge). We figured it would be nice to go there and do some hiking, or some more boating, or whatever other fun things were available to do up there. To get there, we decided to avoid the interstates, and instead took the coastal highway which, while a bit slower, was quite beautiful and let us see a bit more of Maine's prime tourist real estate. |
Our first interesting stop for the day was the town of Wiscasset, which the book said was really cute and charming and super awesome and amazing.
It's a road with a few small shops and a few restaurants. Restaurants are good!!

We parked the piece-of-crap-mobile (really, PT Cruisers are just awful, awful cars), and wandered around a bit looking for some lunch.
Nope, not there.

Nope, not there either.

This little stand on the side of a road had a huuuge line next to it.

We opted for the no-line but still crowded place across the road.
There were a number of other stands and the like around here too.
Man, that Red's Eats reaaaaallly has a long line. Turns out we probably should have waited. Our lunch turned out to be the one mediocre meal we had on this trip.
The line is only getting longer, if anything.

This is our first view of one of the bridges you have to take to get to Bar Harbour. But it's not actually the bridge connecting the island to the mainland. This one is in Bucksport.
